Responding to a terrorist tncident in Southeast Asia
A policyholder, badly burned in a terrorist explosion at a disco
in Bali, Indonesia, received assistance from our Singapore office and got the best
possible medical care in Singapore. He paid no out-of-pocket for medical expenses,
and we even assisted his brother to visit him, and helped keep the rest of the family
apprised of developments. When it was safe for him to travel, we arranged an air
ambulance flight to the United States, and transferred him by helicopter to a local
burn unit.
Medical assistance in Europe
A policyholder's daughter alerted us to the admission of her father
to a military hospital in Rome for thoracic aortic dissection. The facility wasn't
able to treat a heart condition of this severity, and it would have taken the Air
Force two days to evacuate the patient. Our medical director determined that the
patient's condition was too critical to wait. Within three hours, we had him on
a private, medically equipped plane with a doctor and nurse heading to a cardiac
specialty hospital in Monaco. Doctors operated on him immediately upon arrival in
Monaco. After the patient had stabilized, we arranged for a repatriation to the
U.S. The policyholders' daughter credited us with saving her father's life.
Couple's cruise trip interrupted due to breathing difficulty
Imagine taking a seven day cruise to Bermuda. On the fourth day,
your spouse has difficulty breathing and has to be transported to a hospital. Because
this family had travel insurance, their unexpected bills for extra hotel stay, early
flight home, special oxygen for use on the hotel and flight, taxies to the hospital
and vacation interruption fees were all paid within 11 days.
Critical connections in Tibet
A bus accident in Tibet left several policy-holders injured. The
terrain was impassable - commercial planes simply could not reach them and private
jets could not land. Even air ambulances were out of their element. Working with
the local government, we secured a Chinese military cargo plane. We arranged evacuation
of the patients to a hospital ready and waiting to care for them.
Life saving rescue at sea
A policyholder suffered several strokes. The first came when the
cruise ship docked just off the coast of Tanzania. Unfortunately, the closest hospital
in Tanzania didn't have an adequate facility for treatment. Within hours, a helicopter
transported the patient to a facility in South Africa better equipped to handle
the patient's condition.
Total assistance in Thailand
An accident in Thailand injured 42 policyholders. Immediate on the
scene, we translated between doctors, patients, government officials and insurance
companies; and arranged assessment and evacuation to Bangkok General Hospital. From
there, we made repatriation logistics and arranged a police escort to take them
to the airport.
Family nearly missed cruise ship due to poor weather
Imagine heading out with your three teenage sons on an Alaskan cruise
and you're suddenly told that due to stormy weather the flight, nor any other flight,
will get you to the ship to embark on time. A chartered plane is the only way to
avoid missing the first couple of days on the cruise, and fortunately this family
had travel insurance to cover the additional expense to meet the cruise ship on
time.
